i'm trying to install dsl on a hp-compaq nx9020. when i insert the cd and boot dsl right after it finds the soundcard it says something about being unable to dereference a null pointer, dumps a stack trace and countinues. Then, later when i try to configure my network(the nic uses the 8139too module) using ifconfig, ifconfig just freezes. Actually, just typing ifconfig leaves me one line down in a totally unresponsive shell.

if i boot in failsafe mode the nic works but i have no sound. Modprobe-ing i810_audio segfaults
I would really like to use dsl. pls help me.
btw, how do i remove all those apps i never use?

IIRC the i810 cards have had alot of problems working in linux for some reason.  You may wish to google for that chip & see what others have done.  When you find that info if the instructions on doing a workaround or a driver is available, repost to this forum and i'm sure someone will be able to translate the information for you or give you instructions.
