What questions get asked all the time?Forum: User Feedback Topic: What questions get asked all the time? started by: green Posted by green on April 22 2006,04:29
I know some of you seasoned DSLers have seen the same questions pop up all the time.Example: I boot DSL but get blank screen, please help! That is a valid question. What I would like to see is a quick link to the DSL Wiki that we can paste as a response and answer to these frequently asked questions. I know there is a FAQ in the Wiki, but I'm thinking of something more specific and/or expanding the DSL Wiki FAQ. An example answer for the example question above would be a link to the DSL Wiki that explains the steps to take to fix that particlular issue, on a basic level, and maybe not a link to many questions, but just that one answer. I know I have typed the same answers in many various forms to many basic questions. Some of you seasoned DSL verterans have answered the same, more technical questions many times. Reality states that this will never end, but if we could quickly paste a link in the post where the questions is, we could move on and still contribute to helping those with questions. The goal is to provide quick, effective answers to frequent questions in an easy to understand manner while being easily accessible. So, this is a call to action for DSL Veterans and DSL Noobs as well. Post your 'all too frequent questions' here with answeres and we'll see if we can set up a space for them in the DSL Wiki or a better way to expand the existing DSL Wiki FAQ. Thank you for contributing to the DSL community with your suggestions. Posted by piccolo on April 22 2006,10:34
I agree totally with Green. Some frequent questions: - Sound Problems - How to read/write to CDROM, Floppy, etc - How to mount a drive - How to Install to hard disk (Explained on Wiki but is confused) - How to edit a configuration file (Frequently the Linux newbies can't because not root permission) - Keyboard Problems (Not english keyboards) Perhaps seem obvious for many DSL users but we should consider what many visitors never have installed a operative system and they never have used Linux. Anyway they win to install DSL or at least running it from the DSL Live CD. That is other great merit for DSL !!!!!!!!!!!. Beside, i believe what the wikis is not friendly to search information. Is better a html user manual. Spanish is my native language but i offer as a volunteer to write some basic topic for that future manual. I can write it to spanish, english and italian. But my english and italian documents must be post-edited by english and italian volunteers, respectly. |
