I am not in the IT field, actually an artisan/builder, but want some patient answers to some very basic questions. I am using DSL on a WinBook xl2 PII 300mhz-hard drive install and would like to know if it is possible to install streamtuner.deb from my local directory /home/dsl with apt-get(tells me it can't locate-even though it is there in Emelfm) or Synaptic? I also would like to know how to automount cd's when inserted. I am having trouble viewing what's on my cd's- it doesn't let me view it in Emelfm when I click on it. If there is a way to view info on my cd's from the command line (bash) could you give me specific syntax? Thanks in advance, Eric PS if more information about my set up is needed, please let me know and I'll get it for you. Open emelfm, on the bottom you'll see(mine say's>) dsl@box$ you need to type>sudo dpkg -i (the first couple of letters of the .deb and the tab key to auto complete) then enter that's all to it. I'm asumming you have the dpkg.dsl installed since your using apt-get? example: dsl@box$ sudo dpkg -i streamtuner.deb Posted by kerry on May 03 2006,07:45
Also you might want to install rox.dsl.info under the apps section in the dsl extension browser, so you can get back to a icon based file browsing format. It's also very customizable for looks. Here's a peak at mine->< http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/2977/rox4an.png > |
