Respected and knowledgeable brethren...

I like to scroll line-at-a-time continuously using Firefox on long articles.
I use the up and down arrows for this.
In Fedora and even in DSL with Dillo there's no problem.
In DSL, with Firefox,  it seems that a key repeat or some other thing is triggered that causes the scroll to continue *after* when you let up on the arrow key.
The scrolling then often runs away with itself in annoying fashion.
Is there an adjustment say with xset or something that will overcome
this annoyance?
And, yes, I know there's a scroll bar.

I've got 1.0.6 as in DSL 2.4RC2.
Smooth scroll doesn't fix it.
Did you get 1.5.0.3 here or from Firefox direct?

I got it from firefox direct. You just download it, unpack it, right click the emelfm icon choose super user, goto /usr/local ,rename the firefox there to firefox.old and copy or move the new firefox folder there. You also have to install the gtk2-0705.dsl in the mydsl browser under gtk, than right click the desktop>mydsl>update to gtk2. That should get you up to date.

I have firefox1.5.0.3, but....
I get a 'download or checksum error' trying to get gtk2-0705.
/mnt/hda1/mydsl is mounted, ok.

Also /usr/local seems to be /ramdisk/usr/local.

FWIW, I have 1.5.0.3 in Fedora and there I don't have the original scrolling complaint.  Perhaps it is a known characteristic of 1.0.6.

You can try to get gtk straight from the site->
< ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/damnsmall/mydsl/gtk2 >

sorry, ramdisk/usr/local is right
after you download it use the emelfm mydsl button to install gtk.

I have managed to get gtk2 installed, and have experimented with FF1.5 as you suggest.
I am in dependency hell right now.

First, FF1.5 complained about pango.  I installed pango.
Then, FF1.5 complained about UTF-8.  This is not going well.
I think I'd need to know what all you've added to the raw DSL to make FF1.5 happy.

FF1.0.6 is not complaining about gtk2 or pango, but maintains its scrolling nuisance throughout.

FWIW, I thought program.tar.gz usually implied the program took care of its own dependencies.

I can't get a copy of gtk2 that survives an md5sum check.
I have tried through the gear icon and direct to the repository.
I get gtk2 code, but it doesn't check and it doesn't work.
This is at least one of my problems.

Wierd, i just tried it just incase there's something wrong with the package and it works fine. I got it here-> < ftp://ibiblio.org/pub....705.dsl >
What kind of internet connection you got.

We are back to square one, but thanks for your assistance.
I have tamed the wild gtk2 and installed my very own FF1.5.0.3.

However,

Scrolling Firefox 1.5.0.3 is not quite right on  my setup, as originally described for 1.0.6.  Somehow a keyboard buffer is being handled differently than in Fedora and in the kerry set-up.

The 'nuisance' is more tolerable now that I've gone on this long interesting trip.  Next time I'll probably wait for one of roberts' pre-packaged dsls, rather than bring anything in from the outside.

Thanks, just the same.
