DSL works, but I don't want to be updated...Forum: User Feedback Topic: DSL works, but I don't want to be updated... started by: Sn@ke Posted by Sn@ke on May 31 2006,11:40
Hi,since I've installed DSL on my harddisk (< topic >), I'm quite happy with it, because it easily works on my old Computer, I think it is even better than Win98SE. But I've got one problem: DSL doesn't know the command "apt-get", so I cannot update the system or install new software... Do you know a solution for this problem? Get dsl-dpkg.dsl, and probably gnu-utils.dsl whilst you're at it, from the redpository:< http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub....m > Posted by Sn@ke on May 31 2006,12:10
where shall I put these extensions?

Hi,dsl do know apt-get, but it's called synaptic and it is in the menu (mydsl). You have to enable apt first, then install synaptic and enjoy. Restriction: dsl is as knoppix a debian-like distro; all debian progs won't install in it; and dsl is small = less libraries than other bigger debian distros; so you won't be able to install all you want. Advice: in order to update dsl, you have to use the dsl upgrade utility, also in the menu mydsl. yours z Posted by Sn@ke on May 31 2006,19:43
I just had to change the mirror and activate apt-get, now it works finde ;)But can you tell me, how I can choose another server for the packages? I've installed GAIM with Synaptic, but the version is 0.58, but I want to use the actual version... Posted by Sn@ke on May 31 2006,19:47

Hi ho,I don't know unfortunatly. Synaptic funtions with wget, so that you have to get the last version of gaim. Try a apt-get update and then apt-get gaim If not, then it means that dsl works with that old version using apt-get. For gaim, there is a .dsl extension in the appropriate repository. Just look at it in order to find if it's newer. yours z |
