Do I need to add something to xinitrc to get xscreensaver running at startup?
At the moment I have to start it manually from MYDsl menu.

Yes.  Any application you want to auto-start with X should be added to .xinitrc.  Look in .fluxbox/mydsl.menu (or .fluxbox/menu in DSL 2.2 or older) to see what command is used to start xscreensaver, and put that in .xinitrc, followed by "&" at the end of the line.

It looks like your command is incorrect, since you actually have two commands there. xscreensaver-demo is an interactive program, mainly written to configure/preview xscreensaver. You can start the daemon using this program, but it would require an extra manual step.

I think the command in xinitrc should be "xscreensaver &" or "/usr/bin/xscreensaver &". Either one should work.

Cool; I was getting tired of "updating to gtk2"
