What file are you attempting to change?  If you're trying to make changes to /usr/share/fluxbox/backgrounds you're looking in the wrong place.  Personal background images are stored in /home/dsl/.fluxbox/backgrounds.

If you're having trouble with file permissions in /home/dsl, there is either something messed up with your system, or you are not telling us something.  Are you logged in as another user and trying to modify files in /home/dsl?

Wallpapers, that reminds me i came across the code to let you change backgrounds on the fly from the menu and i haven't tried it in DSL yet.

mikshaw, you want to see if it works in DSL fluxbox? Here's the code to add to the .fluxbox/menu->

[submenu] (Backgrounds)
 [wallpapers] (/usr/share/fluxbox/backgrounds)
 [wallpapers] (~/.fluxbox/backgrounds)
[end]
[end]

The "wallpapers" feature was added to Fluxbox during the 0.9.x development, so it will not work in DSL.

I've been using fluxbox for about five years =o)
Fluxbox is installed in /usr, so its shared files are in /usr/share.  /home/dsl/.fluxbox contains your own personal fluxbox files (at least it will when you copy files into it).  The wallpaper tool in DSL was written to work specifically with fluxbox, so any files you add to /home/dsl/.fluxbox/backgrounds will automatically be found by this application.
