i down loaded this distro after trying out several distros on my laptop, none of wich would reconise my hardware (its an old laptop) but i decided to have a go with this one, and found that it worked straight away :D

i am, however, having some trouble with the file browser. i have a couple of questions:

where do i find the folder where the desktop backgrounds are kept

and, how do i look in a cd-rom or floppy (i know how to access a usb stick, just not the cd-rom or floppy)

ITG,

Use the mount tool in the lower right corner of the desktop.  Clicking on the device will toggle through the available devices (cdrom, fd0 etc etc) and clicking on the unmount button below the device will mount the device.

Once mounted, you can use emelFM to access the device and files therein.

Alrighty, a problem I can fix!

I can't remember exactly where the folder(s) for the bg images are, but you can view the path by
[DSL Control Panel]->Background->Help

Darn...got to it second!

I suspect you're trying to copy the image of the folder from a floppy / cdrom to your harddrive????

If so, open a terminal window and type 'sudo cp (-r [B] if you need it to copy recursively) and then the src and dest.

i.e. sudo cp -r /mnt/fd0/xxxxx.xx /mnt/hda1/

no, i was trying to transfer an image into the backgrounds folder, so i can change the backfrounds, the image is already on my hard drive. it does, however, show up brown in emelfm (not the image, the filename)
