Just tried a hd install with DSL on my old thinkpad 380ED and it's breathed new live into this old machine, thanks.

The only thing is I can't get the myDSL function to run from my home network. I took the laptop into the office and it works there fine.

the list of available programs is blank and the url says < http://127.0.0.1:6804/ >

I was wondering, does this point to a firewall problem with my ADSL router?

Is there a manual way of instaling the DSL packages?

MSBUK ???

Your office network probably has DHCP handing out leases for IP adresses.
DSL loves a DHCP enabled network, you just plugin and GO !... Nice...

You home network may not be DHCP enabled.
If not, you'll have to assign an IP manually for your DSL install.

In your menu , what does "System > Net Setup > netcardconfig"
do for you when you use it to setup your networking?

And yes, you can download the .dsl files to most anything,
CDR,  USB key, CF, copy to empty HD space, whatever,
and use the myDSL button in emelfm to load them up.

I get a similar problem, stating that it  cannot connect to ibiblio, however, my net connection is fine, I am using DHCP fine and netcardconfig returns an OK when setting it up with DHCP.  Am I missing something?

I have noticed that sometimes Ibiblio goes down (maybe for updates?), next time that happens open up a browser and see if you can connect to Ibiblio directly.

just click the gui again quite often it is not quite ready when dsl is ready ,ie if you've only just booted and then click in that first it will not go, but on second attempt should connect, maybe this needs to go on the bug file

That could be the way your DHCP server/router works, the initial call out to the network is when it opens up as a relay for a newly assigned IP.  I have seen this a lot with the new Linksys routers.

Even now, at 3:31 CST
I can't get to ibiblio...  it's not responding..

Problem lies on ibiblio's end, since I'm here
happily typing away about my lack of ibiblio access.

Problem might also be DNS at your end.  If you have a router that does DHCP for you, make sure it has correct DNS server addresses that you can use.

(Newbie alert) Trying DSL 0.8.0, and experiencing the same problem with the 'my dsl' icon.  When I double click it, i get a Dillo screen aying it cannot connect to the repository.  Though I can reach ibiblio, with the opening 'Dillo' screen (the one with the initial help stuff).  That screen has a link to the repository, and I can browse its contents fine.  So it seems to me the 'my dsl' gui script isn't working for me.  I'm using an external hayes modem, and set the 'my dsl' to hdb1 as an added drive..
Very impressed with the remainder, though - please don't take my problem as criticism, just an alert.

Try the workaround that is mentioned on this link.

It might work.  Usually it solves the problem when all you see is "programs available" instead of the click-n-load buttons:

Thanks for that suggestion.  I copied the script into Scite, but couldn't save it in where it said - Scite just said it couldn't save it.  I've got it saved as fixmydsl.sh in hdb1 for now - Scite did that.  I tried to copy the file from hdb1 to 'home' using emflrm.

Then I started an XTerminal, and got some other errors.  But I tried to copy the Xterminal screen showing what I'd done - it highlighted it in white when I pressed both mouse buttons, but on returning to Scite to paste it in so that I could save it and post it here, Scite wouldn't let me do that.  So I've failed both to do as the script said, and I don't know how to report what I actually did.  Other posters seem to post their sessions - is there a simple way to do that for reposting on a group like this?

I have read reports that cut-n-paste do not work correctly from dillo or glinks.  So my advice is to try and use Firefox or Opera and use them to paste into Scite.

Good Luck
