Is there any point in using a firewall if I am booting DSL over a standard internet dialup system? It seems to me that the ISO image should be safe from contamination from viruses so that it is going to be pure and untainted with every new reboot.

The only thing I'm slightly afraid of is surreptitious key-logging sofware, but it seems unlikely that it would be downloaded while I am connected via a random dialup IP and even more unlikely that it could survive a reboot.

some points:
- a firewall doesn't protect you from viruses, it's a network security tool
- the ISO image - I'm guessing you burnt this to a cd.  It is then read-only, and it's only in your ramdisk and extra attached rw media that can be affected, but the ramdisk is cleared after every boot.
- I haven't seen a keylogger on DSL yet
