Hey All,

I have a question that I hope hasn't been asked a million times already. I poked around the site and I only saw fleeting references to the minimum size a DSL install can be. I remember seeing 64MB.

I hope DSL is the distro for me but size matters :) Here is what I would ideally like.
Firefox and wireless network support, I guess the easiest way to describe the setup would be a kiosk setup. Except this setup would be used in my house for personal data lookup from my webserver.

How small can DSL get? Is it possible to install DSL without things like Ted, Dillo, Xpaint etc, basically every application except for Firefox!

A perfect distro would be bootable from a floppy but I think that's pretty much out of the question, a small CF card would be fine.

Thanks,
Hav0kc

It's 50mb, as advertised on the main page - damnsmalllinux.org

Yes, it can get smaller - afaik firefox is one that takes up the most space.  You may want to look into the remastering threads and removal of program scripts, etc.

Ah I see the problem, how could anyone see that large bold text, placed clearly near the top, with ample white space around it to emphasize it? Clearly it should be multicoloured and flashing :p jk

Anyways thanks for pointing out the obvious, which I missed  :D

I'll look into those scripts.

Hi

There are any number of floppy based Linux distros out there.  Toms is probably the best known.  I've used something called WOLFLand with success.  Just do a web search for "floppy linux".  I see now that WOLFLAND is no longer active.

Good luck

A distro like dsl with no office apps(like spreadsheet + word processor) but only firefox(newest version now is 2.0) would be fantastic. You could use the google writley and spreadsheet over the internet. The beaver text editor could be left, i would also like to keep sylpheed, but email can be accessed with firefox(gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc...
