Modem not recognizedForum: User Feedback Topic: Modem not recognized started by: Sharktooth Posted by Sharktooth on Jan. 23 2007,18:04
When I first tried DSl a while back on my old Dell computer, one of the things that impressed me was its ability to detect my ADSL modem and be connected without any intervention on my part. Now that the kind people on this forum have assisted me in using the correct parameters for my Xsetup to enter DSL, the next hurdle is to solve why I cannot connect online. I am using a Siemens SpeedStream 4200 and am connected on 1.5Mhz to my ISP. Within DSL, if I try system > netsetup, I receive a "No supported network cards found." message. Trying DSL/PPPoE > PPP config, I get the NO INTERFACE FOUND popup screen. When it asks me "Run modconf now?" I click on [Yes] and nothing happens. Are there any suggestions? How is that modem connected (isa/usb/pci/serial/etc)? Is it a winmodem? Is it for dial-up?What shows up under `lscpi -v` (if applicable) ? Posted by Kruppt on Jan. 23 2007,18:52
You may have to connect the modem to a NIC,via a cat5 cable, rather than using the USB connection. Kruppt Posted by Sharktooth on Jan. 23 2007,20:03
My external modem is not a Winmodem. It is an Ethernet/USB ADSL modem. It is connected to the computer through the LAN (RJ-45) port 'lscpi -v' produces a "command not found" HTH Posted by ^thehatsrule^ on Jan. 23 2007,23:26
sorry, that was a typo, it should be `lspci -v`You can also check under System Stats if you don't want to use cmdline. Posted by Sharktooth on Jan. 24 2007,00:01
