After finally getting the Grub entry right (thanks to "mikshaw" and "^thehatsrule^": Thanks guys <=(:-) -(smiley with a hat on,  for you guys, I just couldn't figure out how to give it a tip o' the hat ) I finished the installation, but it only asked for a root passsword, not a user or user password. Forgetting that I needed to create a user (I haven't looked into that yet), I downloaded the apsfilter printing program so's I can print from this box. I haven't checked it out yet, so I may have more questions! Anyways, I went to their website and downloaded their free music ... it downloaded to Desktop (firefox), but now I can't find it. I've used "whereis", "find", and locate"; those are the only three commands I know of to find lost files, but none of them were able to find my .mp3 files, so I can play the music. Of all the ones I downloaded, "Cocaine" was the last to download .... do you know how hard it is to hear that song over and over without stopping, for four or five hours without a break, while you're trying to figure out where the rest of the downloads are? ........... never mind, I won't answer that in public!! ........

Can anyone help me to find my lost files? TIA, IM2Slick

With respect, it's inappropriate to promote dangerous drug abuse on this forum, whatever the apsfilter guys are doing (and it might be more understandable if apsfilter was programmed with a bit more professionalism than it was, but unfortunately it has problems).

I think the default location for Firefox saved files is /home/dsl

Note: This is an instrumental version, .... I didn't hear any words whatsoever, so I don't think they are promoting dangerous drug abuse on this forum,They are just playing music that they enjoy, if you wish to enjoy listening to what they are playing. That being said, what problems might I expect when trying to use apsfilter to run my HP all-in-one printer? TIA

I am not able to copy and paste from a terminal to here for some reason, but I will try to explain what's happening: it says:
Code Sample
root@box:~# cd /home/dsl
root@box:/home/dsl# ls
Events
root@box:/home/dsl# cat Events
:07:09:DSL 1.3.1 Released
08:02:DSL 1.4 Released.
08:09:Linux World
08:10:Linux World
08:11:Linux World
10:31:Halloween
root@box:/home/dsl#

Any more ideas?

See mikshaw's post in < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....t=10964 >

btw, nice smiley

Or else you may use the `find` or `gtkfind` or `updatedb && locate` tools

To IM2Slick: I think the apsfilter problem is that it's widely used but has a very unprofessional, immature feel. It will install your printer but that ASCII art lettering is just stupid, as is the "postcard-ware" concept, ridiculous dialogue and the fact that the test page prints out a photo of some grinning bloke's head. DSL is a distro aimed at professional and business people, but apsfilter's development to maturity seems stalled around 1990, in some obscure Euro-college running UNIX on a SPARC.

I cannot find the Firefox cache anywhere. I have looked in /usr/local, /usr/bin, and haven't found it.

Thanks for the link, but it didn't help :(.

If you rebooted, then your files are probably already gone, (and then you cannot use the find tools either)

Just change your firefox preferences and it'll save you a headache :P

What am I doing wrong with DSL? every time it boots, I have to replace my bookmarks, my passwords, and my downloads? This could get annoying!

I have changed the download directory to a different directory .... one that I made myself ;) I just hope that one won't disappear too!
THX <=(;-)

Well assuming you did a frugal, yes... but that is what backup/restore, and persistence are for.  (See local startup documentation)

Also, /tmp is usually not saved... well because its temporary.

No, I did not do frugal .... I read that if I do a HDD install, I end up w/Debian, which is fine w/me. But do I have to do backup/restore every time I do something?

Also, what is the path for /tmp, I can't find it in /home or /usr! THX

Frugals can also be hdd-installed.  Backup/restore are only meant to be used with frugals.

/tmp refers to the root dir, but since you are running the debian-style way, I have no idea how it is set up.
