Why were the scripts/qemu support for linux dropped from the embedded version of DSL?

Because there were claims that different versions of Linux required different version of qemu/linux and/or settings/optimizations. If you can run Linux then should not be a big issue to get qemu for your version of Linux and setup to run DSL. Some distributions are now including virtualization software, so you would be better off to run the version optimizied for your system.

I'll give you that it is easy enough to set up QEMU on a linux box if you have root, but one of the nice advantages of the embedded.zip on a usb key was that I could run a "machine of my own" regardless of what platform I encountered, regardless of whether or not I was offered superuser access.

No big tho, I'll just repackage my own portable solution. I just wanted to see if it was a concious decision or an oversight.
