Thanks for sharing.
Files in /usr are read-only in a default DSL setup. The only situations in which this could be possible are 1) you have a traditional debian-style harddrive install, 2) you have already installed a *.dsl mydsl extension, 3) you have run mkwritable, or 4) you have remastered DSL. Files in /usr do not restore from backup.tar.gz unless you have one or more *.dsl mydsl extensions installed automatically or use the "write" boot option, both being overkill just to edit a file. Editing systemwide configuration files for the benefit of one user is unnecessary and potentially dangerous. If you mess up a personal configuration file you can simply remove or rename it and the application falls back on the systemwide config. Mess up a systemwide config file and you may render that application useless until you fix your mistake. In the case of Fluxbox styles, I recommend copying the original from /usr/share/fluxbox/styles to /home/dsl/.fluxbox/styles and edit the copy. Posted by stupid_idiot on June 11 2007,13:29
Hello - I just found out that the problem lies with my screen. You see, I tried taking a screenshot and that black strip I was seeing wasn't there anymore. It was just a black line. Could a moderator please delete this topic? Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.
