After downloading some new extensions - including the latest firewall - I finally downloaded DSL 3.3 - or whatever was in the "current" file.  Then I could not log into my dialup Internet!!  So I switched back to DSL 3.1 - keeping all extension changes; firewall; etc. the same - and logging into dialup worked fine.

Nothing wrong with 3.3. But using poorly made extensions will clobber the system. You have three choices..

1. Do what you already have done, because obviously you don't use uci extension type.
2. Boot dsl v3.3 with the legacy boot code and it will behave like v3.1
3. Look at the declobbered thread in the mydsl extension area and try to find your extensions that have been declobbered.

Who knows, perhaps you can help test the newly rebuilt extensions and actualy contribute something positive.

Thanx for the tip regards clobbering.  Since I have 200+ MB of DSL extensions, may well be among the 123 bad apples.  However, since I made two live DSL CDs today,  both exactly the same except one based on 3.1; the other based on 3.3, clobbering did not seem to be the cause.  So i tried my 3.3 version again and it worked.  Now i can stay current with 3.3.

Profit making ISP -1.  Free software +1.
