Okay, the forum psychics will be along to help you once they sort out your issue. You might try providing some details if you want help sooner.

On a HP Pavilion,500 Mhz clock speed,194 Mb ram,Windows 2000 Professional.Mouse works fine but with Damn Small Linux, put in CD and reboot the mouse freezes.Son came over with  4 other versions on live CD and mouse worked fine. So in essence I can't get past the startup with the box in middle I need to click closed.

Laptop or desktop? Standard PS mouse or USB or laptop touchpad? The more specific your info, the more help we can offer.

As far as comparisons go, it's all apples and oranges. I don't know which distros you tried but I'm willing to bet that if you're on a laptop and the pad worked they probably contained full X. If that's the case and you want to use DSL, you can download the Xfree86.dsl extension (requires manual configuration) or use an external mouse.

D'oh! You aren't talking about a blue box asking about Xvesa/Xfbdev are you? It's not supposed to have mouse! Just use the arrow keys and enter..

Hmmm, that shouldn't be an issue at all. Did you run xsetup.sh? You can run it as a cheatcode when you boot.

Or you can hit ctrl-alt-backspace to kill X. At the console prompt, type xsetup.sh (and enter). Answer the questions. When you get to another console prompt, type startx (and enter).
