Does DSL load into and run entirely from RAM or is it dependent upon a CD/DVD drive or USB memory device remaining active?

This has not been made clear but is an important consideration. If it runs from RAM it's super fast and easier to deal with if something "bad" happens. You can just turn it off without saving if need be.

I hope it does run from RAM as that's my preference.

By default it does not run from ram, but if you boot with "dsl toram" it will load into ram
