Apologies if this isn't the right slot to raise this.I had problems getting admitted to the DSL Board - the reasons for which I fully appreciate - and now there's a guy over on the Linux Questions forum who experiencing the same problem (see < http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=611192). > Perhaps one of the moderators could help him out. Many thanks. Posted by roberts on Mar. 04 2008,20:20
I am not the person that handles registrations. The process was changed due to all the spammers out there. John processes registrations. I cannot speak for him or his schedule. As a moderator I limited access to forum. I was able to find this particular user and have approved him to access the board. To contact John, his email is on the cdrom image, john@damnsmalllinux.org Posted by jaygeedsl on Mar. 04 2008,22:43
Thanks for the reply. I didn't appreciate that John (Andrews) was responsible for processing registrations. The referenced LinuxQuestions thread deals largely with problems of getting registered on this board. There is no mention on this board of whom to contact (that I could find at least) if registration delays occur. Many new users find this most frustrating in their keenness to sort out problems with their new DSL installations. Unless there are any objections I propose to post the quoted email address to the LinuxQuestions board for the benefit of future prospective members who may find themselves in the same situation. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You should ask John specifically if it's okay with him before you go around posting his address all over the Internet. Don't presume it's okay with him or that he should have to tell you not to after the fact. Same rule goes for anyone else's address. Posted by jaygeedsl on Mar. 05 2008,10:24
Of course. In this case since John's email address a. has been posted here already and b. is on the cdrom image I didn't think I was breaking any rules. I was only trying to help out a fellow newbie but in the circumstances I'll take no further action. On reflection I suppose the existing registration email system is a de facto point of contact to which a prospective board member may address a registration problem. As a new user, albeit frustrated there for a while, I fully understand privacy and time constraints. I also appreciate all the time the developers, John and Robert have put into this distro for the FREE use of others. Many others from the looks of it. As I understand it, a user spied the frustrated posters, me included over on LinuxQuestions and let someone know over here. I must say that the problem was resolved extremely quick, between the time the kind user posted that he had notified someone over here and the time I received an email from Robert with the problem solved. I think that whatever the answer, it should be determined by John and Robert because it's their time that we're borrowing. I appreciate EVERYONE who takes the time to respond to the same old questions from new users such as myself, no doubt you'll be seeing a lot of me here as I am able to learn more. But until I'm paying John and Robert for their time as developers and supporters, I'll take what I can get, at their leisure. I think that's only fair.
