nedit and .zip

From within emelfm:
Emelfm is trying to use nedit to open .txt files (I changed my filetype to beaver).
Why does beaver sometimes show an empty file called '5f'? Maybe it has something to do with it replacing the 'view' box when openning an unknown filetype?

I tried a few .zip files, one of them I know is not damaged. Using view they are all empty and using unpack/unzip doesn't extract any files. tar.gz works ok.

From rxvt: (shell/console/term whatever is the correct name)
The unzip command gives this error:
Quote
unzip: Unsupported compression method 0
Do I need a plugin or something to handle .zip files?

Other stuff:
I tried updatedb as dsl and root, doesn't work how I expected. What is the correct way to update locate/slocate? Am I supposed to be using another command to find files?

What does this mean?
Quote
BusyBox v1.00-pre10 (2004.06.12-14:15+0000) multi-call binary

And why does it say something like
Quote
0 processors detected
when I boot up? Is that message logged to anywhere?

Can cfdisk be used with the boot option toram? It says
Quote
fatal error cannot open disk drive
I tried mounting hda1 too.

I notice the startup doc in dillo mentions 'scite' I don't think that package is on 0.7.2 somehow. A few other things in the manual could do with updating too, like the /opt/MozillaFirebird path.

Can you make the 'get firefox' script add a fluxbox menu entry?

I saw some DSL screenshots and noticed some terms showing cpu and mem usage. I also notice 'man ps' says this version of ps has no options. Is this where gnu-utils.dsl comes into play? Does it contain gcc?

fluxbox menu -> system -> timezone it says:
Quote
Please enter the name of one of these cities or zones
But I don't see any listed. I tried typing names in but it didn't do much.

Edit: Seems some .zip work and some don't.
works: < http://toktok.sscentral.com/dump/linux-so.zip >
broken: < http://toktok.sscentral.com/dump/binary-pr8.zip >
I'm pretty sure both files were created under linux (not DSL) and can be deflated.

First the zip files:

The first one, the one that works is zip v2.0
The second one, is a very old zip file, v1.0
Since, I don't use zip much, I cannot say for sure that v2.0 is not backward compatible with v1.0.  The unzip in DSL supports v2.0

Second emelfm:

Yep, looks like old nedit fell thru the cracks. Will fix that one.
If you want a fix right now:

1. cd /home/dsl/.emelfm
2. sed 's/nedit/beaver/g' filetype > tmp
3. mv tmp filetypes
And if this is liveCD then add the /home/dsl/.emelfm to the /home/dsl/filetool.lst

Third: Timezones
Yep, needs some work here. This is what I do. I am in PDT time zone. The default is CET.
Edit and add these to your /opt/bootlocal.sh
 rm /etc/timezone
 echo "PDT" > /etc/timezone
Add if liveCD be sure to check that this will be saved/restored by checking the /opt/bootlocal.sh is in filetoool.lst
And of course, use your timezone. Can look it up on the internet.

Fourth: Busybox
Gee, this has been around since v0.6. There are many posts about it. You have the choice when installing to hard drive to not use busybox. Choose "enhanced" when installing to hard drive. For liveCD users you can add the gnu-utils.dsl via the myDSL system. Choice is yours

Fifth firefox:
The download script is and subsequent start of firefox is on the menu Apps->Net->got bandwidth->firefox. You can always edit your menu to your likeing or use the whitebox tool via the myDSL system. Choice is yours.

Sixth: Documentation
What can I say, we developers type always forget some documentation. It need to be updated and will. Thanks for reminding us.

I had no idea there were different versions of .zip. How can I find out what version a zip file is? Maybe I can force my zip to use version 2 for creating archives. I'll probably switch to tar.gz from now on (it has a few features I use that .zip doesn't have anyway).

I'm now using 'where' instead of 'locate'.

I misread the boot message, it was more like
Quote
one processor detected
Quote
CPU 0 is ...

Thanks for the info on the timezones. Turns out I'm in CET anyway.

After using search (doh) this thread has some of my answers:

Should I be running the backup/restore script from text mode so the ~/.fluxbox/init file is processed correctly?
