Just to let you know that Yahoo Messenger works with DSL0.7.
I downloaded the Debian version.
The first installation failed because of two missing packages that created a dependancy problem (libssl0.9.6 and libgdk-pixbuf2). I downloaded these packages with Synaptic, and installed Ymesenger again and it worked!

Nice.... Good Work !!

Did you simply d/l the *.deb file, apt-get install the YM, or use synaptic?

What packages where the sources of the extra lib files you found thru synaptic?

That sure would make a nice .dsl extension to pass around..

That would, as a matter of fact.  Nice thinking.

I simply followed the instructions on the yahoo website:

The installation commande is:
dpkg -i *.deb

I downloaded the libs with synaptic.

Andre.

Good work! I just tried it and lo and behold it works...

Now, using your techique, I'll try to apply it to other IM's. If I can use it for GAIM or even AMSN then this little distro is overcoming one heck of a hurdle.

I mean this started as a simple live-cd, and it's slowly evolving into a small distro that's winning the hearts of many...

Okay, can some of you existing Ymessenger users tell me if the .dsl you can find at

works (ymess.dsl) ??? The new ID won't but I think the rest might be okay............

The way it is runing on my 10 years old P200MMX, it has won my heart!

I tried AMSN, but no luck. Some of the packages are unstable. After I tried, something broke in my setup, I don't have icons anymore. Now I am trying something else: backing up to a ZIP100, so I can keep the packages I downloaded. With that, I will be less hesitant to try stuff, knowing that I can re-install DSL more easily (so far my first problem is to format the damn zip disk).

I would be interested in GAIM too!

Hi nucpc,
I have used your Yahoo! .dsl file with 0.7.1 (booted from CD, ymess.dsl on hdc1) successfully "chatting" with a Yahoo! user [running the "Miranda" Win32 client on an XP box]  :-)

Also success chatting with another user running the official Win32 client on a Win98SE box :-)

I already had an existing ID.

BTW:- I have not attempted a file transfer between these clients, as yet.

Hi  d4cnobby,

Thanks for the feedback, hope you enjoyed it. You might want to have a look at the instant messanger Henrique
has recently provided though (you'll find his posting in the `myDSL' section).... sounds like its a better package.

All the best, nucpc.
