Problems with modem and soundcardForum: User Feedback Topic: Problems with modem and soundcard started by: Gh MP Posted by Gh MP on Aug. 07 2004,14:49
Hello!I need an advice. I don't know how to install my modem (an internal modem - intel 536EP) under Damn Small Linux. And I have problems with my sound card, too. It is on board, RealTeck AC97 Audio. If I try an autodetection, I receive a message: Not Supported or something like that. Thank you. Posted by ke4nt1 on Aug. 08 2004,08:47
Many internal modems are "winmodems" , and require windowsfeatures and programs to do in software what the manufacturer is too cheap to build into the hardware... Not a lot of success in making the winmodems go in any linux distro. As for your sound, there is an AC97 module in DSL. The usual first attempts at getting the sound working are.. 1. Try typing "modprobe sb" as root user in a shell 2. Try typing "insmod ac97" as root user in a shell If you see errors, your off track If you see no output, only a return to the prompt, then your making progress. If you make some progress, exit the Xserver ( ctrl-alt-bksp), and restart the Xserver by typing "startx".. Look for the wmix app in the lower right hand corner.. Also search the forums usiing terms such as "sound" "ac97" etc. Your sound chip is a common one found in many systems.. 73 ke4nt |
