Hello Yall,I tried puppy linux first but then i discovered DSL! I now boot MsDos from my usb-stick (which has some nice rescue-tools on it) and then i can go to DSL (via loadlin). DSL has some great features like the automatic wizards that find my LAN/internet. (i wonder if adsl/isdn/modem-users also can find there internet as easy as i do?) I now am able to save my configuration (desktop style, mail-config, bookmarks,etc..) What i mis is the ability to force applications to start at bootup-time. Fluxbox does have this function. I want to boot DSL and have Dillo/Sylpheed active on different workspaces right from the start (for instance) I like DSL a lot (specially because it is based on Knoppix) Good work you guys, keep it up (because i am a pain in the ass and want more... MORE....... (please) Posted by AwPhuch on Sep. 16 2004,16:59

Not sure if you mean "doesn't"? If so, you can add the applications to $HOME/.xinitrc: dillo & sylpheed & fluxbox If you want to specify the workspace, you'll have to move to fluxbox 0.9.x and use $HOME/fluxbox/apps instead of xinitrc. Or maybe the remember patch for fluxbox stable will allow you to do this Posted by Tom_ES on Sep. 17 2004,08:30
Hi! I'm a total newbie in linux, but just tried some of the popular distros out there... just to try back windows -( mainly because I didn't know how to install my own apps. But with DSL!! Wow, fast hdd install, absolutely no probs, just installed Firefox and was pretty easy to do. Only got some probs when installing AMSN (it needs tcltk, it said the info, but I didn't read--->newbie), when I installed tcltk from the .dsl got AMSN working perfectly!!! hahaha I'm pretty happy with DSL, the only thing is... well, the damn wireless mouse, I had to plug a serial one I had in a box to work in fluxbox, and know... I want to install an Xfree86 desktop hoping that doing so the wireless mouse will work... (if i'm wrong, please feel free of helping me!! privatemessage at free...) Great Work! it may well, more recent and less minimal xservers support newer and more exotic devices.i've never liked wireless mice myself but if you like it then try to fix it. do you have the internet up and running in dsl? if so then install the dsl-dpkg.dsl extension and apt get install (i can't remember what package it is (i hope someone else can tell you)). Tom_ESHow did you install Firefox? Posted by ML on Sep. 25 2004,10:46
I love DSL especially for the ease of adding new program to it from MyDSL. However the downloaded program is not saved in the CD hence its not there in the next boot up.How can the MyDSL be saved in the CD. Is there same easy way to burn the iso into a bootable usb drive? use either the firefox.uci or the firefox0.9.3.dsl in the extension library. |
