I am not sure if everyone of you is experiencing this same problem.1. If I am on xwindow(fluxbox) and I did not click on enhace, then I would shutdown. It wont. I would first click on enhace then it would show its icon then click on shutdown to close DSL. 2. I have an AMD 1.2GHz Thunderbird processor, and when I shutdown, it wont poweroff automatically. It just says "Knoppix halted". But when I tried DSL at school on a Pentium processor it works fine. Fluxbox 0.1.14 is out DSL is on 0.1.10 its only about 365k Posted by John on Sep. 21 2003,18:46
Hi Vhangell,1) Maybe retry this. The enhance script should have nothing to do with shutting down. 2) This has happened on some of the hardware I've tried as well. I haven't spent any time on i though ;). >Fluxbox I've thought about upgrading Fluxbox, but DSL can't take advantage of AA fonts so the upgrade wouldn't enhance much. Sounds to me like an apm/acpi thing; it should be automatically detected, but maybe your motherboard doesn't support the linux versions of apm or acpi?Oh well, there are a couple things to look into... Posted by vhangell on Sep. 21 2003,23:42
Yeah, I think your right. I have fixed this in RH7.3 by recompiling the kernel and adding support for real mode bios calls to shutdown or something like that. Anyway if only I could get a copy of the kernel configuration file .config I could maybe recompile my own zImage and replace the vmlinuz from the boot disk. To: John There is a new link to morphix < Morphix >and the forum link in the DSL hard drive install is missing. < DSL-HD-Install > Posted by soinsg on Sep. 24 2003,19:29
While on the issue of shutting down, I was surprised there were no docs on how to do this (like the hd install doc). I had to leave DSL running and get to another computer to find out via the internet (in the end I did shutdown now and then halt).

Kabayan, the apm module is already there (as with all knoppix versions) so you do not need to recompile kernel just for the apm to work. Nobody here mentioned that the bios should support apm/acpi.Maybe you should check if the bios apm is enabled. |
