I ordered my copy of DSL yesterday

. Any ideas how long it will take to get to me (I live in Surrey, England)? Anyway, it looks great!
I don't know if I am going to be a regular on this forum, dont quite understand my school ICT rules. (Unfortuantely, ignorance is not an excuse, I could get banned for this post ;)

Sorry I don't know since I download the ISO from ibiblio.org.
Downloading takes about 7-9hrs on my 56k modem.

Don't worry about it. Im at school at the moment, so I cant download. Is it worth it? I cant wait. Also, could you give me some details about the live aspect of it. I understand it runs from cd, but does anything need to be written to HD. New apps? Also, since Windows is based on readable partitions, are live cds not a safety risk, because you could simply mount the windows partition and read it freely?

I have tried downloading at school but I cant burn it on cd since our administrator is VERY selfish. Downloading software is against our rules. Hehe

Is it worth it? Yeah, it is really worth it!

Aspects? hmm... You can run it on cd without installation, no need to install anything. Unless you want a hard drive install.
It has an mp3 player, a browser and it can be used as a linux boot/root disk. It is very useful for beginners/students who
are trying to learn linux since it can be used almost anywhere.

New Apps... see the site at < Applications >

DSL wont harm Windows partitions that for sure. Unless... You repartition using fdisk or make an ext2 filesystem on it deliberately :laugh:

No, I mean, if you use damn small Linux, and mount the windows partition, couldnt you just read anything you wanted? It seems like that might be a bit dangerous. Could I just insert the cd and have access to all partitions freely, albeit without write permission (No, this is not wiht a view to doing anything of the sort, just in theory ;)?
With the apps thing, I meant if you wanted to install something new to use with DSL, could you just have a small partition, or do it in the ram or something, or would you have to do a hard disk intstall.

I have one more question. My current laptop I am going to leave out in Germany where I have broadband (was going to say DSL, then realised it might cause confusion ;) to act as a webserver. It is running apache on Mandrake Linux. I am going to enable remote root logins. Using damn small, could I remote login from damn small to edit my webpage on a computer with an NE2000 card that otherwise runs XP? This would be very useful, because I will probably get a new laptop for christmas, and dont really want to install Linux on it. (I have a bad history with Linux/Windows dual boots ;)

Any help much appreciated!

By the way, if you would like any help in any way with your site, id love to help, seeing as I do quite a lot of javascript and html programming - other than the forum, the site looks a little sparse in any scripts ;)
Sorry, last question, could I remote login (preferably as root) to a Linux machine if I connect the computer running damn small to the internet?

Thank you for the offer on site design, maybe down the road a bit. As to logging into a remote machine, DSL has SSH, VNC, and telnet (not secure) clients, so yeah.

I have been using DSL on my computer for the last few weeks after the hard drive failed. DSL works great without the HD, as long as there is enough RAM. I am thinking of leaving DSL on that machine without the hard drive, it works so well.

Is that just telnet that is not secure, or all of them?
Anyway, with three clients, it doesn't exactly seem lacking ;)
Why not take 2 out, leave the one that you think is the best, to make room for other apps, amnd still keep it at 50mb?
