THERE ARE ABOUT 2500 MENBERS OF THIS FORUM, YET WE ARE ONLY GETTING AN AVERAGE OF 497 VISITORS PER DAY, WE HAVE ALREADY SLIPPED BELOW UBUNTO ON DISTROWATCH AND WE WILL BE LUCKY IF WE KEEP ABOVE FREEBSD, VISIT THE SITE EVERY DAY AND WE WILL BEAT THEM ALL, ANY TRUE DSL SUPPORTERS WILL VISIT THE SITE EVERY DAY.COME ON, WON'T YOU BE ASHAMED AS WELL IF WE LOSE OUT TO A BSD!!! VISIT THE SITE, PLZ!!! Posted by Grim on Oct. 10 2004,14:59
Maybe the 2003 members registered to this forum are satisifed with this distribution to the point that they no longer feel the need to peruse distrowatch for another solution. As far as true believers go, I'm pretty sure they're proselytizing new users with freshly minted CD's wherever they go instead of pointing someone towards distrowatch to vote for DSL like it's some high school government election that doesn't really accomplish anything but to further buoy up someone's flagging ego. Love your enthusiasm buddy, why don't you channel it towards something productive like, say, helping squash bugs or something. A good solid product is what attracted all of those people to this project to begin with, let's continue that standard of quality to retain our current users and attract more. Let Distrowatch take care of itself. Posted by John on Oct. 10 2004,17:54
ico2 I appreciate the sentiment but I agree with Grim. We do not want to artificially boost DSLs popularity on distrowatch, doing so wouldn't be respectful to Ladislav. The fact that DSL has even reached #9 is amazing to me anyway, it is a fantastic achievement even if it isn't sustainable. If we get there again I want it to be earned. Posted by ico2 on Oct. 10 2004,18:36
fair points, but i for 1 will still be ashamed if we slip below freeBSD, come on ppl, show some pride.

one soloution prehaps to get more ppl using dsl (and thus visiting the website) is to create customized versions of dsl for specific purposes and then put the best ones on the net.i have mentioned this point before and am myself working on a server edition of dsl, still using monkey but with a few bonuses to ease configuration and use, i will still strive to keep things below 50mb though , look out for dsl server edition |
