we have a slew of dells that are 2-3 years old and are coming up on thier end of life cycle with software upgrades, etc...

I started to roll out XP machines, but it is becoming more and more unmanageable with every knew patch, exploit and issue - so I started to look into thin client hardware that will auto-connect to a win2k - this way I can reduce actual desktop boxes down to at least 5 fold ..

while doing that research, I came across terminal-services.net, which offer some unique ways to extend older boxes, but I thought DSL could do the same thing.

So far I have gotten DSL to HD-INSTALL, added the rdesktop command (which I finally found after reading an updatedb post using gnu-utils .dsl) to the .xinitrc so it will auto-launch, tunred on ssh at boot so I can remotely administer

So I am looking for any comment or feedback on how I can improve this...

I am new to X-applications, my use of linux is mainly cl server apps...so I have a few questions about the console

- how do you add/remove icons without going into file level and taking care of it?

- how do refresh the desktop with restarting X?

- when I reboot, the screen goes blurry - anything to relive this?

- is there a way for rdesktop to auto-reconnect if there is a disconnect on the tsrv side?

- I added enhance & to the start script, but ideally I would like to get rid of the meter indicator - anything?  is there a icon & command that I could put in its place?

- any suggestions on the best way to allow people to retireve data from the CD or floppy and get it onto a samba share that is then accessible by the terminal server session?  or share the CD and floppy with terminal server session (they are all on the same network)

thanks!
