I have a system with DSL set up as a HD install using version v.0.5 but it has never properly detected my network card.  I downloaded v.0.6.1 burned a copy to boot it up, hoping to get some sweet internet action out of the old box.  It says it detects my network card, hoorah! but now the mouse hates me.  It's an older machine, Cyrix MII-233 and the mouse is a generic 2 button serial mouse(no ps2 port).  I'm afraid that with my admittedly limited abilities in linux I'm not really sure what to do.  Is the cd reading something from the HD install other than the swap partition, loading up an old config file or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated, since DSL is by far the greatest use I've found for all these spare 255meg harddrives and obsolete computers.

OK, I am assuming that your serial mouse is connected to COM1. I am also  assuming that you have X windows up but no mouse. First from the keyboard do ctrl-alt-backspace that will exit X windows and you should see a prompt like this
$
At the prompt type
sudo ln -s /dev/ttyS0 /dev/mouse
Note that is a capital S and then the number zero, then type
startx
That command is linking the mouse device to ttyS0 (COM1)
Good Luck
