And that friend is DAMN SMALL LINUX!!

Got home to see my folks, who have Sympatico ADSL for their internet provider.

So I decided to show my folks my new toy and loaded her in.

Well safe to say. Sympatico High-speed modems (Speedstream 5200) got easily recongnized by the DSL/PPPoE configuration WITHOUT A HITCH ON THE FIRST TRY!!

I swear, just like that. BAM! Spent the next little while having a little bit of fun cruising in style.

Now here's a question? I know speedstream modems come in two types. The ones with the ethernet jack and the ones with the USB jacks, would DSL recongnize PPP protocols over USB? Since I never tried just yet, I thought I would ask if anyone had that kind of experience?

Anyways, keep up the great work. Knowing that one of the biggest Internet providers in Canada and this distro work well hand in hand, makes me proud to be under the Penguin's banner!!

i'm glad to hear your success story.
I think your speedstream 5200 is the same modem as Alcatel USB modem
so you might want to take a look at this thread < http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=118 >

RJ45 is better in my opinion. you just need to plugin a NIC.
Then telnet or use a web browser to config the modem quite easily
no burden on cpu load.
My speedstream 5260 works great..(RJ45)
