Dear DSLI just was used to DSL8.3 and 8.4 comes up. Not only that
but also the arrangement in MyDSL has changed. 8.3 cannot
read the new MyDSL files. Changing within weeks is too fast
It requires rebuilding HD and downloading all components I
want again (Firefox, Skype e.g). And where has Ted gone? This was really a fine program for .rtf . Instead I get SIAG. Is this a spreadsheet? Where can I find how to use it?
Too fast changes are no good for the stability. In this way you scare the users.

I think the frequency of release is really driven by the community. In the case of DSL, the community is very active with alot of great ideas. Please remember that the real purpose is to be a livecd distro not HD installed. If you HD install DSL, as I do at times, you just have to remember that what you are doing is not in line with the overall scope of this project. If you have specific settings or apps you want to maintian, I suggest using DSL's backup/restore feature so that you can easily restore your personal settings to the next release if needed. Take care

there is no need to get a new version as soon as it comes out. i still use mostly 0.8.0, i only gave up on 0.7.1 because some mould type stuff grew on the cd and made it unreadable.

wlvdpoel, we like out disrto development like we like our celebrity plastic surgery - fast, drastic, and not always a good thing.even with its flaws, Siag is more functional and John + Robert can cram in more features. From my point of view, this is better. Ted was unstable, and limited in what formats you could use. PW is much more versitile.
you want an app replacemant that was useless? grab a copy of 0.7.2 and look at the excuse for an editor that is Beaver which replaced Scite for 1 whole release. Scite >>>>>>>> Beaver (untill Beaver matures, and works out some bugs, at least).

I like testing the .dsl's.---
I'm currently working with whiteBOX, it has a lot of features to quickly change the
desktop, etc. but I have had it crash. It doesn't bring X down, though, and whiteBOX can be restarted.

Since it's in .dsl form, I can drop it if things don't work out.
Perhaps more new apps should be in .dsl form for a while until they are actually incorporated into the distro.
I do put them into the root of the CD, and have to burn a new one if an
app needs to be "dropped".
