Of course it crashed (M$ shite), but the error message seemed worth saving! Better contact the 'architect' :;):

2 screenies from my usb-stick DSL.. (usually i run chbg to slideshow my photoalbums at random (every minute) on my desktop). That is why the desktop is so empty...

See: < My Webpage >

Here's a 4-way with a different icon flavor,
using wmdrawer to "hide" the icons in a dock app...

There is also a closeup, the "Damn Small Linux" in the corner is the dock app.
Click there to release the icons...

And another closeup showing the iconbox "open" , releasing the deadlies...

This is the stable fluxbox version , that is in DSL..
No pixmaps were killed in the making of this theme..  :)

What theme is that?

EDIT: V Thanks.

Posted by ke4nt1 on Dec. 05 2004,00:34
The base for the theme is called "air"

I found it at one of the fluxbox theme sites..

I've been toying with some icon designs, just wondering what the alpha support of the desktop is?  I thought it supported full alpha, but the icons I made only appear to come up as either fully opaque or fully transparent?  ie. like a transparent gif, no "semi-transparent" area?

That image could easily be cropped to remove all the wasted black space, and then set as background in the same manner as the current baby tux image.  It's only 10k now, and cropping may bring it down to nearly nothing.

Do you know if the image is copyrighted?  I'd like to use it in the fluxbox-0.9.11 extension.

Milkshaw, I don't know, you could always email the guy who had it on his site.

Posted by somerville32@hotmail.com on Dec. 12 2004,20:23
Everything is copyrighted, unless he specificaly says that you can use it freely then you must ask for permission. People confuse what copyright and registered copyright is. Having it registered just ensures protection.

Posted by RoGuE_StreaK on Dec. 18 2004,23:06
I was trying to make a DSL-specific icon set, something different from the gentoo round ones.  I'd originally created them with a hazy reflection under them, figuring they were png so you'd get a nice effect, but it seems that the desktop doesn't support alpha trasnparency apart from "transparent" or "not transparent". :(
All those wasted hours...
The current ones still have alpha on the "box" of the icon, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work...
Would have been much nicer if I could have found large versions of each of the icon symbols to scale down, most of them I had to scale up, work on the icon, then scale down, so they look pretty crappy compared to Firefox, the GIMP, etc.

< This Screenshot > is not mine. But can someone help me identify the apps he used to get the news feed (east side), and the system info (west side) and the battery indicator (south side). The weather info uses Karamba. I think the live newfeed on background is way too cool, cant wait to get my hands one those.

And how do you guys make your apps windows looks transparent?

Posted by mikshaw on Dec. 19 2004,01:24
I think that's all karamba.

Transparent windows are most often done with terminal apps in aterm.  The latest fluxbox also allows you to set transparency for other windows...just the decoration, though, not the inner window.

ATerm is the simplest way.  Just get aterm.dsl.  Comes pre-configured with about 50% transparency, but you can always fiddle with the settings.

PS.  The word I was looking for to describe the icons and icon reflections was "translucent".  I made them translucent, but the desktop only seems to make everything opaque.

Posted by ke4nt1 on Dec. 19 2004,03:23

Or, from commandline: xsri --set /path/to/imagefile

I added a couple more to my boring little screenshot. One is of torsmo (since the colors got kind of mucked when I scaled it) and the other shows the smaller 24x24 icons I finally got around to scaling (I love imagemagick!) and setting up, etc.

I also got a rotating message of the day, depending on the boot day.. The hardest part was to come up with 31 pieces of good stuff ;)

It also plays the McGyver theme on every other boot and Hard Rock Hallelujah on every other....

Sometimes they don't get to sleep (neither do I). I'll log out if I know I'll be away for a while to keep things relatively secure. Sometimes, though, it stays logged in while I'm afk. My MOTD is an ASCII penguin above my old BBS tagline: ASCII stupid question, get stupid ANSI.

Edit: Let me clarify by cron job I meant getting the different messages each day (just the messages -- e.g., in an X message, appended to my morning news downloads, or something along those lines), not getting MOTD itself.
