Greetings all,

Had to give dsl  a try,  it's just too cool not to play with.  I would love to have an OS and files on a key chain.  I work in a lot of different offices.  Unfortunately many machines out there don't boot to usb so I would still have to carry a floppy or cd.

Here's my current problem:

I have a 128 meg Cruzer Mini.  I have no problem with it on my main machine, but it causes a freeze on boot up on my second pc :(  The freeze occurs while dsl is writing fstab.  If I wait until after dsl boots the whole system freezes shortly after I insert the drive.  This machine does not have USB 2.0 and I suspect that has something to do with the problem.  I tried it on another pc with usb 1.1 with the same result.

Any suggestions?

Thanks........................fubar

The fstab part of the bootup seqence involves a script that is probing your hard drive partitions and is looking to autodetect your existing ones on this computer.

This freeze could indicate a problem with the IDE or SCSI hard disk controller drivers, or it could indicate a problem with the reading of the partition table or some other problem.

Try booting with the "failsafe" boot option to see if it helps.

Also, you could try booting with the "dma" boot option.  Some people have noticed an improvement with partition scanning while "dma" is enabled.

Good Luck.

I tried the failsafe and dma mode with no success.  The freeze only occurs with the Cruzer mini 128 plugged in when booting or if I plug it in after booting DSL.  Knoppix CD takes a while put then continues ok and is able to recognize and mount the drive.  My other flash drive, Cruzer micro 256, works fine with DSL.

I already tried reformatting the mini Cruzer 128 (fat16).

Looks like something with DSL.

Thanks for the suggestions...............fu
