I'm new to dsl and linux so I'm highly confused and having fun.Unfortunately I lost my Monkey. I wanted to use the new Monkey available at the author's website so I deleted the installed version thinking no big deal. Woe is me. There is nothing in the /bin folder. Is it possible to get Monkey again without reinstalling dsl? Thanks Ebbee Posted by libretto on Nov. 26 2004,19:26
Hello there,Don't know exact details, but if you search the forum you should find something on the Monkey webserver. There was a question about installing an updated version (from the monkey website) and I think it was simple as unpacking it into the /opt/monkey/ folder? So you may need to create the folders first. yep, it should appear under /opt/monkey-version/.and welcome to the forums !!! Posted by http://www.seoconsultants.com/to on Nov. 28 2004,14:28
Thanks for your repliesIt's great that this old laptop can do something (anything) useful again after two years of collecting dust. My goal is to place it nearby to use it as both a coffee cup holder and a web server. ;) The Monkey website talks about using GCC and Make but this is way into unknown territory. With Monkey running I check the version of Monkey by looking at my ip at < http://www.seoconsultants.com/tools/headers.asp > I've done everything I can think of but with every change I make the version stays the same... Server: Monkey/0.8.2 (Linux) I'm thinking that without updating those binaries in bin then the server stays the same? Ebbee Posted by ico2 on Nov. 28 2004,17:45
download dsl-dpkg.dsl, install, change /etc/apt/sources.list to point to unstable and apt get install monkey.

Which item in the file sources.list is unstable? Should I be adding an unstable resource? Also, I have 2 sources.list files on my DSL. Edit both? My DSL webserver so far --> < http://69.242.75.58/ > Thanks very much. Ebbee Posted by libretto on Nov. 28 2004,19:03
If I remember rightly (I may be wrong), there are two similar lines in that file which list links to the stable resources and unstable resources. So if you want the unstable one, uncomment that line and comment out the 'stable' line.HTH P.S.: Like the flash presentation! Posted by Ebeneezer on Nov. 28 2004,19:16
Thanks Libretto. I know windows and I know flash but I don't know Linux.I will check out that file more closely. Also, I've discovered a hibernation problem with this laptop. My laptop seems to just close down for some reason if left unattended very long. Always something! Regards, Ebbee Posted by ico2 on Nov. 28 2004,19:52
yep, the flash thingy is kewl, i should probably learn to do flash

Ebbee,On my laptop, I just disabled all the power control stuff in the Bios, and that stoped the hibernation problem. BTW, your laptop is a screamer compared to my Pentium 133 MHz. Posted by AwPhuch on Nov. 28 2004,22:25
Yah 600Mhz with DSL is crazy..mega fast!!Good job! Brian AwPhuch Posted by ico2 on Nov. 29 2004,14:56
on a 533 with toram it is a million times faster than 98se

Something to consider is that the fluxbox menu items to start/stop/restart monkey (using the banana script) all point to /opt/monkey-0.8.2/. Didn't think to check about when using the Control Panel. So if you install new binaries (prolly safest to put in it's own directory, /opt/monkey-0.9.0/) you'll need to edit ~/.fluxbox/menu to change the monkey directory it looks in) I think I recall there being a symbolic directory /opt/monkey, currently pointing to 0.8.2. Why not change that to point to 0.9.0, and change fluxbox to use the symbolic directory. |
