Digital Hinote notebook 133mghz 40meg ram. 12.5" tft, fb800x600 res. HD installed.
DSL 0.62 is a further improvement if only a cosmetic one for this user.  The hard disk install has been totally problem free since v 0.60 but the ''enhanced' hd install option didn't work in this new version.  Not to worry, the default standard install option kicked in and completed OK.  The new GTK theme is really nice it's given the apps a new lease of life with Sylpheed particularly becoming much crisper as a result . I have found myself using DSL productively for work I need to do at home and it getting used more than my Win98 (newish)
desktop particularly because it is actually pretty quick and uncluttered.  No crashes at all.  No viruses so far as I know.
Everything but ABS opens up correctly sized on the screen - ABS is about 8mm oversized to each size.  It is a shame as I can't access 'file' from the menu.  TED is nice and easy but buggy: Ctr+V pasting pastes anything between 3 to 5 copies of what was highlighted.  Wheel mouse scrolling on the screen
results in layers of opaque highlighting - maybe a memory thing.  TED has no undo!  Not good for me!  I format WORD .doc things from work into .rtf which TED opens up fine.
What I am beginning to hope for are few built in install scripts eg. for Abiword 2.05, Opera (Firebird installs fine but is very slow on this machine) or even Browsex - anything small with a search engine, Rox filer, anti-virus and firewall programs.  Thats it really.  It nearly perfect.  My attempts at manual install scripts don't seem to work.  I would use Luit for the Abiword (but doesn't display) or Feather for the Opera script (modem config. doesn't work!)  Highly impressed generally - a contribution is on its way shortly.
Here goes with the Synaptic install script again!

ABS will open fine if you change the menu option from "abs" to "abs -geometry 640x480".
I'd be interested to see what's wrong with your modem config; I'm the "Feather guy":)

Hi Typhoon.  Feather is tremendous too - hd install is sweet (I have no cd-rom drive; iso files are copied to C:\ drive and boot floppy started).  The 'dial-up ppp/config' menu modem connection is identical by the looks of to DSL's. data input goes OK.  My serial modem is manually configured on serial port /dev/ttS0  The menu 'dial' command after that however only gives a brief flash of the isp provider screen before stalling.  I configure pppconfig as root and attempt to connect as user (knoppix).  All this goes without a hitch on DSL.

More feedback.  Synaptic script worked!  I now have a list of loads of things I can download (tried Xfmail - installed fine).
On closer inspection, a lot of the software is quite old eg. Abiword v 1.05 for which I was hoping for the v2.-- with tables support.  There are no small web browers (with search engine) .  I was pleased to see 'Pronto' mail listed which I wanted anyway but install just didn't start.  It is a shame that a very user friendly installation facility is not up to date and a little buggy.  Frustrating.  On the other hand at least the manual Synaptic install script  worked - Rox filer and opera scripts did not - it is not a technical impossibility.

DOH!  This newb has only just realised a small web browser with seach engine ALREADy exists in DSL.  It's called Dillo with a saved bookmark to www.google.com.  Open Dillo, click on google bookmark and search as fast as you like.  Opera download script has suddenly lost it's appeal.

Back to that advise above (March 26):
"ABS will open fine if you change the menu option from "abs" to "abs -geometry 640x480".

Thanks. Which menu please?, how do I find it?, what do I have do to open this file etc?.  This newb needs a bit more I am afraid.
I know this ABS size thing is fixed in 0.63 but I have gone back to dsl 0.62 because I just couldn't get synaptic to install on that version, but thats another story.

Del two things, the abs is a change to your fluxbox menu, under /home/ damnsmall/.fluxbox . Edit it and add the " -geometry 640x480 " after abs.
Second if you want newer versions of some apps you will need to check the unstable & testing repositories and add them to your sources.list. Not sure where it's kept cause I'm on another machine atm but I think it's under /etc/apt.

Thanks Hasty I'll give both of those a go.
