Just downloaded DSL this afternoon, and tried to install it on an old Pentium 166 (64MB RAM, 853MB hard drive, 2MB graphics) but whenever I boot from the floppy (old thing can't boot from CD) it freezes up with the message:

"Code: Bad EIP value.
<0>Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!"

No idea what that means, so i'm hoping you can help. I've tried using the failsafe option at the boot prompt but to no avail.

Thanks in advance!

That usually means your floppy is bad..

Try making another boot floppy on fresh media..

Also, check your md5sum on your downloaded boot image.
Make sure it matches the one at DSL.

Thanks for the suggestion but it's still not working. I've tried downloading both the CD and floppy images numerous times and burning fresh ones but none will work, as it keeps coming up with that same error.

Should I just forget it for this machine perhaps?

Test your boot floppy on a newer machine.
