i have been comfortably using dsl as my primary distro for quite some time.every previous distros in the past have installed to my HD seemslesly. Now in the latest build 0.9.3; when install to hd or frugal is selected, it crashes after telling me its creating an ext3 partition on my specified device. Here is what im doing, please tell me if im doing something wrong. +===========================================+ 1: From the menu i select Install to HD 2: when promted for partition i type hda3 or hda6 3: The install method is Standard but i have tried Enhanced as well with my cable conection. 4: The file system i chose was EXT3 as well as the other options on the other atempts. 5: I dont select multiple users. 6: i choose for it to write the partition. 7: DSL says its writing the partion and then it promtly crashes the HD install window.. +============================================+ What should i do? is this a glitch? +++++++++++++++++++++++ My motherboard is a via The cpu is a p4 2.8ghz The ram amount is 256mb ddr. The HD is an 80gb. +++++++++++++++++++++++ I wish there was something in dsl that would let view all my partitions, maybey im doing something wrong.. Thanks for your time, great distro, small problem Posted by anime2k3 on Feb. 10 2005,14:46
Whenever this feature is used my partiotns get messed up.This is very important, i still would like to use DSL. I have to fix my partitions every time with parttion magic.. Posted by anime2k3 on Feb. 16 2005,13:03
well this is great..i guess no one has the answer..okay then, guess this isnt a problem

anime2k3, I'm afraid, probably in common with many, I've never tried the 0.9.3install routines so I can't really comment on your troubles.... I DO have 0.9.3 frugally installed on my machine though. This is done with 0.9.0.1's install routines - I grabbed the new .iso as a file and used 0.9.0.1's `frugal install from file'. Hopefully you can do the same and get round your install problems. There's troubles with `fdisk' when your disk is multiply partitioned (>4 i.e. extended) and this could be the cause of your strife. To view your partitions in DSL try `cfdisk' as su. Read the manual pages first before using fdisk or cfdisk...... If fdisk or cfdisk aren't working as per Partition Magic then that's most likely the trouble (too many partitions for these tools). Hope that helps. Posted by anime2k3 on Feb. 17 2005,14:28
thankyou very much nucpc i appreciate that.i never realized you can view your partitions with that comand. The think about programs like Pmagic, is that they dont tell you the Linux HD names of the parttion..that my little gripe. i have tried a frugal install but that hasnt seemed to work. perhaps its my multiple parttions like you said or it may just be a bug. i wonder if anyone else is having this problem? once again thanks for your help. Have you just tried an ext2 install to see if ext3 is the issue? I know there have been other posts about ext3 issues. I haven't done a frugal of .9.3 yet. Chris |
