I am very interested in building somthing very similar to what is in the mini ITX store > John's Toy ( < http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/mini.html > ) as a linux router/fw

Thing is I would go with the EPIA-CL6000E for the dual lan interface.

I have a couple questions for the pros here..

a.) can you reccomend a configuration for the CL6000E ?
I want to have the CF card to replace the HD to save power.

b.) Is the CF card durable and fast enough.. Basically I dont want this thing crapping out at all...

Thanks !

It doesn't have to be... if you're just using it as a firewall/router then everything can be run from ram - and it would only have to read from the CF when you reboot - so the only write cycles would be when you upgrade the software...

Oh, and for normal use, CF is fine - using it as swap or browser cache would kill it quickly though.

Oh yeah, and for a writeup on doing this exact thing...

(although they're using redhat with shorewall, not DSL)
