Wondering what countries DSL is currently running in.Add your country here. Posted by adraker on Feb. 17 2005,06:22
Well, it runs allright in Australia, but onlyon weekends when the Generator is going. RogueStreak has a big battery and runs his Tuesday nights I think. I wish he'd throw a 2-core cable over. Runs anticlockwise of course. Sorry. Couldn't help myself. Posted by stella106 on Feb. 17 2005,10:45

Oi! So how many metres should I nick from those telegraph pole thingies? (Girlfriend's pedaling madly at the moment...) Where are you adraker? I'm Brisvegas (Brisbane for non-Aus), think Monkymind is here too... Codestorm in Newcastle... that's about all that I've noticed off-hand. And yeah, had to figure out how to burn an iso in reverse, due to that fact that things spin in the opposite direction down here Posted by hpoom on Feb. 17 2005,13:19

OH...Hello...Perhaps, you should...REPLY TO THIS THREAD AND TELL ME WHERE YOU ARE SO I CAN UPDATE MY LITTLE MAP!Kthx Bye. the map is updated whenever i find a new DSL user ;p there is a new dot added...in relative relation to their position...but uh, you can always access the image here < http://aspire.vectori.net/html-pub/dsl-usermap.jpg > Posted by RoGuE_StreaK on Feb. 18 2005,08:54
I'd say you're a bit off with the Brisbane location. Should probably be more like just above the bump on the Aus east coast - your dots would be more like Rockhampton by my reckoning (about 700km North of Brissy). Oh, and myself, adraker, and Monkymind would probably only constitute one dot, being maybe 10kms from each other! (hey, maybe I could run a power cable to ya, adraker! )

I have started a guide (in Danish) which for the time being, is located here: < http://dnepr.dk/dsl/ > /Erik Posted by tronik on Feb. 18 2005,14:06
Its not mean to be down to the wire accurate. The map isn't even really accurate, if it was, Texas would have its big pointy thing sticking down into mexico..blah blah blah) I mean come on, really...So ok, its just for visualizations sake. ;) Each user gets a dot, doesn't constitute one dot..we WANT the map to have more red ;p if it was supposed to be accurated i'd make everyone give me GPS coordinates and write a program to do it for me ;p then the map would have to be to scale. hehe. Hello I am using this in Germany , of cause I speak english but I prefer the germanlanguage on the screen. I posted this before , but it may be important to some people : The de keymap is useless ,you have to use the de-latin1 for fully german support. Funny fact is that I can mail without seeing any ÄÜÖ or ß , but the receiver can read them when he opens the mail on a german Windows PC. Thats one thing I dislike in Linux generally Posted by mte on Feb. 28 2005,16:38

Thanks for your effort at keeping up with this, tronik..Really nice to see a visual display of distribution... Any chance at getting other maps, like Europe, US, etc? ( thinking about more detail - zoomed in view, etc.. ) Pretty soon, it'll be a big red blob in all the populated areas.. Then what ? again, tnx.. 73 ke4nt Posted by tronik on Mar. 08 2005,21:41
When it begins to become big red blob, You start doing density... ;) Denser areas will get a brighter colour (ie. yellow)That map was never meant to be detailed to that respect..that'd be very...tedious. As far as more detail...Um...Thats a bit more time than i'm willing to devote to it right now...if you find an easier way, be my guest, let me know and i'll keep up with that one =) I'm actually looking at an easier way right now, that lets users put their own mark on the map. ;) -will Posted by benson on Mar. 08 2005,23:24

Great to see that DSL is used in so many different countries. I am curious if any of you have installed you native language pack in DSL. If you have, it would be great if you could package it up as a .dsl and submit it to the community. I believe we have a brazillian language .dsl in the repository now. I kept waiting for a Chinese, Taiwanese or Japanese to post here..........AFAIK, there are two Chinese versions of DSL; one is PUD (ref to < http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/relatives.html > ), which is lamppix remastered with Ion wm based on DSL-0.7. The other is DSL-BV1AL, which kept the original theme of DSL-0.9. Both of them combine DSL with more than one "traditional" Chinese input systems (which are used in Hong Kong, Taiwan and maybe Singapore), therefore their sizes are more than 50M but they did their best to keep their distros within 8mm CD. Both have their fans/user groupes; I have tried both and was amazed by them in the same way as by DSL. Both are MIT (no, no, nothing to do with Mass. Inst. Tech.) i.e., made in Taiwan. So far, I did not see any version of "simplified" Chinese DSL (i.e., with computerized input system used in China), but there are quite many Chinese forums talking about DSL and some of them mentioned that they are using DSL liveCD. Certainly, there is at least one Japanese version --- < http://www.hikarunix.org/ > It is very likely that there are hundreds guests (I am not surprised if there are thousands) from the other side of world visiting DSL site and using DSL everyday; I am also using it every day but I am here in New York.... *sigh* I am sure that Asian DSL users would like to post at this thread if they could post in Chinese or Japanese . Thanks John, Robert and many many DSL gurus. I've learned quite a lot from you. And SU, wonderful documentation! Excellent work and great user group! Posted by nadanij on May 01 2005,10:55
hope that helps what if some people from their own countries keep maps for their areas ?! i would offer myself for germany/europe, and what about a really genious guy writing a prog that does it for us by a command-seperated list with cityname and its coordinates, producing a well calculated map with its density ?? ° o O (doesn't already exist such a program out there? if not .. why ? ) no i am not genious enough n. I once had a car crash in Texas (which, by the way, is a Felony in Texas,) I took my car to a garage for repair. I said to the guy that I had a bump on my wing that needed fixing, and he thought I'd landed a light aircraft in his yard! Belgium has one more userOr should I say at least 2 more? We live in Waasland-Belgium. Like to see more old pictures from WAASLAND < "BEELDBANK" Webpage (language all Dutch) > I'm now and than runnin' DamnSmallLinux as live CD. Very nice to try things out and to learn a lot about GNU/Linux. DSL makes no problem to boot on whatever computer I tried it on. This is remarkable. (Runs on DellDimension4500, DellDimension4600, HP workstation xw4100, Medion pc, clones, etc.) In Belgium the mostly used keyboard is be2-latin1. I have a DSL HD installed on a Pentium 75 Mhz with 48Mb RAM on a second HD. I don't have an internet connection on this one. I made a HD installed DamnSmallLinux on a brother of mine his family computer (Intel Pentium processor 200Mhz, MMX technologie, 128 Mb RAM, 20Gb HD). It's a triple boot MSwinxp - GNU/Linux Suse 9.1 - DSL 1.0, so is he using DSL: I don't know yet, in setup DSL was the fastest to run and to work with. it is running in Germany, too. I'm searching a good choice also to re-animate older hardware. DSL would be a perfect one but there's just the problem with the [Alt] key to produce "@" in firefox. The special German Characters "ä ö ü ß" work well in most applications, in Sylpheed just in the dialogue boxes but not in the message compose window!

Let me see.....I´m a high school teacher in a location named Hurlingham, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I have burnt kind'a of 50 DSL CDs for my students. From them, I can testify that 29 are using DSL daily in their home PCs...Plus 2 PCs at MY HOME!! That goes for 31 DSLs in a radius less than.....6 Km (4 Miles, I guess) Crazy boys, all of them....do You believe they have an old DSL mini-CD that was too scratched to be usable....they nailed It to the classroom wall, and, as They enter the room, They salute It, as if It were a God!!!?? Of course, I am too busy laughing to death, and can't tell them it's not a good behaviour...!!! Hurlingham, Buenos Aires, Argentina 31 DSL PCs....could You please count them? THANKS!
