DSL Install and some questionsForum: User Feedback Topic: DSL Install and some questions started by: kaplah Posted by kaplah on Mar. 08 2005,17:30
I have DSL installed on a tiny HD currently simulating a Compact flash install:HDA1=64M (main install) HDA2=10m (Save/restore) HDA3=54M (My DSL) I have a Compact flash-> 40Pin IDE adapter on the way (ordered it from the Mini ITX store last week) The PC is an old AMD K6-2 333 with a Voodoo 3 card and 128M RAM Everything seems to work well- after some looking around, I found out how to save more of my settings in the "save/restore" Question one: I am trying to set up a static IP address for this box, so in the /OPT/ loader, I put: sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.10.115 sudo route add default gw 192.168.10.41 sudo echo "nameserver 192.168.10.213" >/etc/resolv.conf Now, when I boot up- all is set up except for the resolv.conf ! Something must be over-writing it after the script runs??? Second question: In the ITX store- there are Three Motherboards listed- does anyone have any experience with DSL on any of them? Which has the best video and audio? I read that the "M" series is poorly supported by Linux..... does DSL have the needed drivers, or will I have to play "recompile that Kernel"? M series works fine with DSL.If you're wanting xfree etc, I have no idea. If anyone has set up the xfree dsl, send me a copy of the config. I hung last time I was messing around with it... couldn't alt-ctrl-backspace (or does xfree exit some other way), no mouse or anything. I don't have enough time right now to experiment with it. Actually, the X that is running is just fine for what I need- I was just wondering how to over-write the /etc/resolv.conf when the "personal settings" are restored...Thanks for the ITX info. What model did you use? |
