hallo,
I run DSL, with HD instalation,  on a desktop computer: 486, 100Mhz, 24 Mb ram and 1'5 Gb HDD, better than the W95 that I have before in it.
Great!!!!
Thanks DSL's
:) :) :)

Are you sure you want to know?

Back in January I had a remastered DSL 0.7.3"SX" :p running on a 486SX 33MHz PC w/24MB RAM.  It ran, but was way too slow to be useable.

DSL 0.8.2 does run quite nicely on my 133MHz P1 w/128MB RAM.  In fact, it's quite snappy compared to Windows 2000.

When DSL 1.x stabilizes, I want to try a frugal install on a 486DX 75MHz laptop w/32MB RAM & 800MB HD.

Pentium 200 MMX with 32 MB RAM. It boots and runs Fluxbox reasonably fast.

With my organization I install DSL on many old machines every week. My remastered version runs very well on a PI with 32mb ram. Right now, at home I have it on a P133 40mb ram Toshiba 430CDT laptop. It has been up for weeks with xchat running and the occasional Dillo, and yes, Firefox. FF is very slow to start but once it's up, surfing is fine with my DSL connection. It will go down this evening though for a 1.0.1 upgrade. :)

DSL 0.9.3 runs on a computer in my basement, runs X fine:
75 mhz, 24 MB ram, 450 MB hd

FYI,

For a really old computer like these, please try the Opera uci extension.

The Opera web browser is full-featured and runs much faster on these computers than Firefox does and with a UCI extension it uses very little RAM.

200 MMX, 128 MB RAM, 2 GB HDD, 2 MB S3 Trio video card.
I have a 50x cdrom drive, and usually do "toram" since the drive is not too reliable, and with 128 MB ram, it works ok to put DSL into RAM.
The hard drive has a generous swap for DSL to use, and I use a hardware modem with Wvdial. Very pleasant to work with.

i guess the slowest puter i have dsl on is a 486 100mhz 16 meg ram
use glinks and dillo to surf with and ted for quotes and invoices
also use dsl on a laptop pentium 150mhz 32 meg ram NO HD
custom 0.7.1 cd with all i can put on the cd and run from cd
brings life back to the stuff in the closet :)
and then theres my toram puter gotta love dsl

i'm posting this using my Packard Bell Legend 205CD.

- 66MHz 486
- 8 MB Ram
- 500 MB Hard Disk (installed to this hard drive using another machine then moving the hard drive since I can't boot w/CD) -- so I guess i cheated.

I've found that I can get better performance by lowering the color depth of the display, but then I can't use Firefox or Dillo.  I'm forced to use 16 bit color (4 is the lowest) which slows me down a bit.  But hey, it works.  Maybe an ISA video card will help me - i'm using the motherboard right now.

Hi guys

AMD K5 75 MHz, 32 MB RAM, CD ROM, NO hard disk.
The f**** BIOS doesn't allow to boot from the CD, so I boot from a floppy.
Dillo is working nice, Firefox doesn't work at all.

Pentium 1 Mobile @ 133Mhz, 80 MB RAM, 2.4 GB HDD.
It's a Compaq LTE 5300 Laptop, dsl runs like a god on it, takes som time to start up though (takes 3 times longer time than with Slackware, but dsl is smaller so I use that instead).

Compaq Armada 7730MT Pentium 166 MMX, 32 MB Ram, 2 GB hdd-(128MB Swap, Rest for OS)HD install.
Rus great, boots DSL about as fast as my 2.8 GHz 1 GB Ram Desktop boots Fedora core 3. Use dillo (cause I like it), firefox loads in about 30-60 sec. Xmms plays audio.......but I can't hear it! (havn't figured out what's wrong yet, alsa says no audio card). Linksys 10/100 PCMCIA card on Road runner. Pages load pretty quick. Vesa graphics 800x600 32bpp mode (probably be faster on a lower setting but I'm willing to sacrifice. :D

I am also attempting a hdinstall on a couple of old packard bells P200MMX 32MB 1.7 GB hdd, P 233 MMX 32 MB 1.7 hdd. And my favorite one: A Compaq 486DX? with a cyrix Socket 3 100 MHz, 32 MB ram and 1.7 GB hdd. The packards bells are onboard video with original multi ISA (snd\modem) the compaq is a SB16ISA, S3 ISA and has NO PCI slots!! :-P
Hey if anyone wants them , I have a coupl pentium 75 MHz Processors to play with....

Pentium 100MHz
40MB RAM
800x600 24bit
HD install
Runs very decent with dillo and AMSN
I can also get firefox to work after waiting 30sec to load it up
