I don't want to waste any more bandwidth than I have to, so I'll do my best to keep this to one last gushy wad of saccharine. ;)I was extremely pleased to see the link for dial-up access on the main page. As a bumbling incompetant newbie, it is not that easy for me to give back to the community who has given me so much, but this is a very easy, cheap was for me to walk the walk and feel good about looking myself in the eye when I brush my teeth in the morning. My ex-ISP, Joi Internet, was bought out by Earthlink so the timing couldn't have been better. On to the next stupid little flowery card: My second HD install of DSL 10.0.1 happened last night and transformed a $300 Compaq Presario S5000NX that has been nothing but an albatross and a foolish mistake on XP into a dream machine. I am amazed! Third stupid little Hallmark: There are other microdistros out there, but what strikes me as unique about DSL is the community: the respect and patience I see shown to the newbies and people who are too frustrated by the low points of the learning curve to be as polite as they might wish to be, and also the appreciation for older, quality hardware, regardless of whether the user prefers such machines or cannot afford anything modern. Okay. I'm done. I'll shut up now. |
