Hi all,

I decided to try DSL for the first time. Downloaded the 1.1 ISO and burned to a CD as this seemd the simplest way to start.
Booted the CD hit return to start booting and the screen went black, and stayed black.

<ctrl><alt><f1> to the other VT and I see this -

XIO:   fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining

what does this mean? I can't exactly have done anything wrong already can I?

Cheers

Pete

I booted in failsafe mode and I got to a desktop, however my USB mouse doesn't work. syslog is empty, how do I find out what X doesn't like on my system?

You'll probably need to try different settings for video. Instead of just hitting enter at the boot prompt, press F2 and/or F3 to see the various options at boot.

Furthermore, please read the documentation. It's short and will help you understand what you are doing.

Might help if you could provide some system specs.

Try booting with one of these commands:

dsl vga=normal xsetup

and choose xvesa server

or

fb800x600 xsetup

and choose xfbdev server

or you can press the F3 key at boot time and boot with

dsl vga=xxx xsetup

and then choose xfbdev server

where xxx = 3 digit framebuffer code.
