Hi guys,

Just taken the step to start using DSL. I have copied the ISO and burnt them on a CD. However, its not booting up. These are the contents on my CD, which i suspect aren't entirely correct.

boot (folder)
KNOPPIX (folder)
lost+found (folder)
index.html

Please advise on how i can get this CD to auto boot on any machine i choose, assuming i have already set the CD-ROM as first boot device in the BIOS.

Thanks!!!!

When you burnt the .iso onto your cd did you use an option such as "burn image"?

Hi de049,

I am guessing that you have a bad download or bad cd burn.  As long as your computer is set to boot from cd first it should boot up DSL.  The download area has a text file associated with each iso that has a check sum for the iso.  I use KIIIB to burn my cds and it generates a check sum from the iso file before it burns the cd and then I check that against the one in the text file.

Good luck, hope this helps.

I have just burnt the image using "burn image" option in Nero, and still nothing. My PC boots straight into Windows.

Can anyone offer me a site that contains a download of a working ISO for DSLinux?

Thanks!

ok mgmont,

There is also the possibility that your computer is not set to try a cdrom boot before going to harddrive:
During boot up, press the key necessary to get into setup (Del, Esc, F2, etc....it may tell you onscreen what key to press).  Seach for 'boot sequence' or similiar, and modify it so that cdrom is listed before harddrive.

thats done mate. I understand all that, i only need to know the list of files and folders that i need to create the bootable CD. Please let me know which one's from the links provided by mgmont do i need. And if i then simply burn as normal using nero.

These are the files that you need.  The .txt file contains the proper check sum.

dsl-1.2.1.iso
dsl-1.2.1.iso.md5.txt

They are found in the "current" directory of the links that I provided for you.

Then with your burner software you burn the .iso as "disk at once" or (DAO)...you dont want to burn the file [dsl-1.2.1.iso] as a file..otherwise you will have a non-bootable cd with an unreadable cd image on it...

The .iso is a "bit-4-bit" copy of the CD, kinda like making an sillyputty imprint of a record, then digitizing that sillyputty imprint

If that helped at all

What you need is to throw NERO in the trash and use freeware
CDburnerXP pro 3. i'm assuming you have XP . if not there should be a free version on 2000, ME. do a google. I have NERO and cdburner pro. They always give me trouble so i use freeware.
