I am trying to install and compile PHP which requires autoconf to be installed

Apparently autoconf uses a PERL module File::Basenam.pm which is not in DSL.

What is the story with DSL and PERL? Is it just a partial install. Do I have to add the modules that I require?

I am sorry, but I find it is funny that in order to compile one scripting language you need another scripting language; both of which are huge, plus, of course the complier.

You might want to see what's in the newest gtk2.dsl, I belive it has a very updated perl.

There has been some discussion to get the latest perl from gtk2.dsl and make it available as a separate mydsl extension.

The perl in the base is partial and dated. I don't use it, so cannot answer more.

Yes, compiling PHP is turning into something from Alice in Wonderland.I seem to install more and more programs never getting any closer to a compile.

I  found another thread where they suggested using apt-get to download and install the perl modules.

I using frugal and am not sure if apt-get works in frugal.

Will try installing gtk2 as you suggested. Thanks.
