OK well I will admit that I am new to linux I cannot understand what is going on.  DSL has booted properly once only.  I am running a  ASUS nforce mb, AMD sempron 2600, 512mb ram, nvidia fx5200 card, and all the usual fdd, dvdrom, cdrw,   I have tried redownloading from multiple sources, reinstalling to USB drive, 256mb lexar jumpdrive.  The system has the capacity to boot from either usb-hdd or usb-zip, the system will see and boot to the drive however when the system starts rescanning the usb ports it loses the usb drive ?  ends up going thru something that says cloop and errors out to a prompt that is useless. Using a cdrom and pocket cdrw I get the same issue that when booting it will detect and boot to cdrom/cdrw and goes to a point after autodetecting the devices and loses video, when trying to use the ctrl+F2 I get the video back with text and again I am at a useless prompt.  Yea I know I dont have the prompt here to give but I am at my wits end. However the embedded works well abit a little slow.   and hows this  tried to boot same cd in old laptop and it will not boot to it, just hangs,   old laptop is winbook fx. pent 133, 32 mb ram, with bios set to cdrom, funny thing boots to win98 cd everytime ??  any help for any of these problems is greatly apprecieated and thanks in advance to any and all that can help getting the boot to usb to work, the old laptop to become something other than a doorstop.    Thanks again
