thanks i burned it like you said at 2x and it worked perfectly.:) however i cant seem to get online after i set up my dial up connection. i open the setup screen and set everything up i then try to connect it connects flawlessly. then i open open dillo and try to go to any given site but at the bottom of the window it always says no matter what page "ERROR: Dns can't solve www.the site i try to connect to.com what does this mean and how do i fix it? In ppp configuration, the second screen is for configuring DNS. You might try the different options, I know my ISP only works if I set it for dynamic.

Did you have problems connecting with your old os?I have had trougle like what you are describing, and only got away from it by switching ISP's. They had been bought by the local power company, switched to MS servers, and went right down the toilet. Their foul-ups, disconnects, and failed attempts happened regardless of os. Their DNS really shouldn't discriminate, but they may have some funky arrangement. Posted by WilliamS on Oct. 18 2005,14:59
Modem usr5610b, works perfectly with slackware 10.2After much frustration I finally made ppp connect. What I did was remove the cables from a non-functioning cd reader and insert cables into a good cd reader/writer. (!) I hate such mysteries. Posted by dbg2950 on Oct. 18 2005,23:57
i have frontier dial up service i live in concord Michiganthey are the only isp that i have access to and it costs $25.00 a month it works fine with ms windows and always has i can connect to my isp with damn small linux but i cant do anything it just gives me that dns cant solve message.im beginning to think its my computor ill try my moms machine maybe its a hardware problem? ill try and boot dsl on moms machine and see what happens also im only 12 and parents pay for the bills so i cant change isps. My local ISP works fine under windows but it does not serve DNS very well when I use linux (which is all the time now). To get around this I use a public DNS server for my freesco router. Try using the following DNS information:Primary 205.166.266.38 Secondary 69.67.108.10 These are public DNS servers. You can read up about them at www.granitecanyon.com. nope still wont work guess im f***ing stuck with crappy old windows.

Try looking at your resolv.conf file to see what entries it has.Use an editor and open /etc/resolv.conf Put in the two lines nameserver 205.166.266.38 nameservier 69.67.108.10 If your ISP is going to work it should work with those two lines. EDIT: Just an after thought. Does your ISP use a proxy server? Posted by dbg2950 on Oct. 20 2005,23:42
i tried to edit it with beaver but it wouldent let me type in the new lines so i switched over to nano it would let me edit it but not save the changes. how do i fix that also i dont know if my isp uses a proxy server

Open up a terminal window and typesudo beaver or sudo nano and it will let you edit/save the file. You need to have superuser or "root" authority in order to edit this file. Posted by dsl_123 on Oct. 21 2005,11:20
installed dsl onto HD.how can i install mydsl goodies into that. i am not clear with explanation what given in download section.please explain.
Posted by adssse on Oct. 21 2005,12:53
You can download the mydsl extensions from the repository.< http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/damnsmall/mydsl/ > After downloading open up emelfm, navigate to the file you downloaded, click it and than click on the 'mydsl' button in the middle section of emelfm towards the top. It should now be added to the menu when you right click on the desktop under 'mydsl'. (If you are using a .uci extension, you can repeat this process to unmount.) That being said, if you have a normal hd installation it is recommended that you use apt-get instead of the extensions. The extensions are meant to be used with a frugal install, live cd, etc. Check the wiki for more information on apt-get. < http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Enabling_Apt > Posted by dbg2950 on Oct. 25 2005,21:18
