I'm trying to run dsl off the boot cd on a:
AMD-K6 400Mhz with 32mb ram.
Everything is fine until the gui pops up, at which point things start to run very slowly with mouselag and suchlike. Then, usually when its drawing the desktop icons, the screen locks up completely, and nothing happens from that point on.

I noticed the memory monitor lists the amount of swap space as 0. Could this be the problem?

Yes. Make your swap file 350MB or more depending on your available hard drive space. Format it using mkswap.
