I have tried both versions from a booting CD and they do not boot on my

Intel P4 3.0 Ghz HT with 64bit Ext PC if HyperThreading is enabled.

The moment the kernal is loaded by the the boot loader the PC reboots.

If I disable HyperThreading the DSL works, but it does not find my USB mouse or USB Keyboard.

USB is set to legacy in the BIOS.

I have the wireless microsoft desktop which uses a single usb port for keyboard and mouse

do any of you know wht HT is such an issue? and why even version 2 wont work either

I use DSL on HT procs at school every day. That's not the issue.

But the M$ USB keyboard/mouse MIGHT be an issue.

Make sure you run xsetup.sh (dsl xsetup) and tell it you have a usb mouse.

Well all I know is if I turn off HT in the bios DSL works,

I tried what you said but still no go, DSL reboots even when I do "dsl xsetup".

it does two lines of "Loading", then "Ready" and then the PC restarts

I have a msi mega 865 barbones system with ATI 9800. Fedora 4 and Geexbox works fine, but DSL just reboots the machine

I have a Pentium 4 2.8GHz with HT turned ON (Dell Poweredge 400SC) and a ATI9600XT and DSL boots fine on my machine.

Hyperthreading in and of itself works fine with DSL.

There must be some other issue with your computer hardware that is causing a problem when you boot up DSL.

Try searching google for your motherboard model and linux for keywords or maybe even knoppix for a keyword.

Maybe there is more information out there.

Thanks will look it up.

The processor is a

FYI

I downloaded the latest knoppix iso and my system almost booted.

For some reason it seems to hang when trying to broadcast for an ip address. could be a problem with my wireless card. (turning of HT didnt solve the issue, as turn HT off in DSL fixed the problem)

either way, knoppix booted heaps furthur into the system than DSL.

as I said before DSL didnt get very far at all.

MSI released a BIOS update on 2005-7-29

which states
Fix system restart issue when EM64T CPU assert SMI in WinXP

could this be the issue I'm having with DSL? ie. the kernal has a similar problem upon being loaded and thus restarts the machine?
