This post will be in two parts.

First, I love DSL's stability and bullet proof frugal install.  However, it seems the boot time for frugal installs could be made faster.  On the two occassions I performed a regular HD install it seemed my box booted much faster.  I'm guessing that was because it didn't have to auto-detect the hardware, which is where it seems most of the boot time goes during a frugal boot.  Would it be possible to save a file in the root of the frugal install that listed all of the modules that are loaded on that machine so that on boot, if the file is present, DSL can quickly load the needed modules and skip the auto-detection?

Second, has anyone attempted an install of MythTV.  I have my box hooked up to my TV now and will be using it as a media center.  I really don't want to lose DSL, I don't want dual boot, and I want to be able to use all of the bells and whistles a feature rich media suite offers.  I've read through the install guide for MythTV and for my level of experience it seems straight forward enough.  I know there will be a lot of dependencies that will need to be met, and as such there will be a huge increase in the running size of DSL, but if I build it into a .uci then the size shouldn't be an issue.  My biggest worry at this point is that I haven't had any experience with MySQL.  The installation instructions for MythTV make the MySQL setup seem easy enough, but I'm not real certain on how well the database file(s) will handle the filetool.sh process, or even how big they will be.  Am I barking up the right tree here, or should I just install Gentoo and be done with it?

You can add cheatcodes to the boot command to skip parts of the hardware detection you know you dont use, this will speed things up a tiny bit

as for mythtv

They have a KNOPPIX MythTV out called < KnoppMyth > but I can almost guarantee its very bloated

You might have to get the kernel source and gcc MyDSL in order to compile?!?

Good luck..tell us how it does for you
