No chance to startForum: User Feedback Topic: No chance to start started by: Ragnar Posted by Ragnar on Nov. 23 2005,16:02
Hi thereI just got DSL 2.0 and burned it on a cd. After inserting the cd into the cdrom and a restart, DSL starts fine untill the automatic hardwareconfig comes up. After that the system hangs and i can restart only with the reset button on the computer. Any one knows what could be wrong? Here is an info about my system : < http://de.geocities.com/ragnar76_de/sysinfo.html > thx / Ragnar / Posted by cbagger01 on Nov. 23 2005,17:34
Try booting with thefb1024x768 command at the boot prompt. Do NOT type dsl fb1024x768 instead, just fb1024x768 Also, you might want to try failsafe xsetup and choose Xfbdev when prompted if that doesn't work Posted by Ragnar on Nov. 24 2005,14:10
Hi cbagger01I never have used fb1024x768 or something like this ( this res. is to "small on my good old 21" monitor ). I tried : toram, xpert, dma, noapm, noapic and failsafe so far but nothing helped. It would be sad if dsl will not run. I'd like to use it as a lfs/gentoo or similar replacement. bye / Ragnar / Posted by cbagger01 on Nov. 25 2005,05:58
Try addingnohwsetup and/or nofstab to the list Also, do you have BIOS 1009 or newer? Posted by SC on Nov. 27 2005,16:59
Hi I do have the same problem. And also tried to start with those parameters.

I have spend hours with the same problem, now it works.First: dsl nohwsetup, the system comes up the first time! 2nd: kill X, sudo su, hwsetup -v, then i saw that the last modprobe before dead was the btt878 driver -> my brandnew twinhan dvb-s card! 3rd: card removed, boot up, dsl comes up without problems, yes! Now i know the reason for the same hang on similar systems like knoppix rescue systems from certain developers like pc-welt (germany) To keep the card plugged the dsl has to be patched, or, better, the next version 'know' the twinhan card. Hmm...Can you boot up in "expert" mode? Posted by Rio on Dec. 06 2005,10:35
IMHO the 'expert' mode doesn't ask for disable the hwsetup, so the systems freezes like before. As i afore said, the only way to successfull boot was the 'nohwsetup' switch. |
